Welcome

Dunster 2025

I am writing this as Chairman of Grand Western Archery Society. You may be aware from Vikki Atkins’ post on the Dunster Facebook page, that she is stepping down from organising Dunster in 2025.

Vikki has done an absolutely sterling job organising Dunster for the last 10 years, taking over from Nick Nicholson and of course many others before that. For many of us it is one of our Summer holidays, where we don’t just get to shoot for a whole week and a bit (if you do the Somerset Champs as well) but its a time to meet up with friends that perhaps you don’t see at any other time of the year.

So we really need to thank Vikki (and her support team mainly in the form of Paul, but there are others!) for all the hard work that she has put into keeping Dunster alive. Especially through Covid and a whole host of other trials and tribulations. So on behalf of all our GWAS Archers and of course all our Visitors THANK YOU VIKKI!

The text that Vikki posted is below. However, GWAS are in need of a new organiser to take Dunster forward from 2025 onwards. Vikki has promised to help and support any new organiser and because it’s such a big event, planning for 2025 has already started. Vikki has done the stuff that needs to be done at this time of the year as a kickstarter for the next organiser. But we really need another Grand Westerner to step into her shoes to protect Dunster going forward.

If you think that you might fit the bill, then please feel free to contact me at tpratt@btinternet.com and we can have a chat, or of course as Vikki says, her door is open too. GWAS have a Council meeting on the 12th November when we will be discussing the topic so it would be good to know where we stand for that meeting.

Thankyou.

Vikki’s post..

I’m sure some of you will have already heard that after ten years of running Dunster Week I am stepping down as TO. It’s been an absolute pleasure to organise this for all you Dunsterites. Hard work and challenging at times (STT, if you know, you know 🤣) but when I see a field of happy archers, hear the laughter and know how many lifelong friendships have been made during the week it most certainly makes it all worth while. My thanks go out to the team I have around me that have made it happen and to all of you who get Dunster and love it for what it is. Archery as it should be!!

See you there next year 😃

And if anyone fancies taking it on, please let me know.
