Ray Gallop

It is with deepest regret that I must advise you of the death of Ray Gallop after a short spell in hospital, Ray passed away peacefully at home on Monday 27th February.

Ray’s contribution to archery is immense, as an active member of DWAA, President of GNAS, a National and International (FITA) Judge, his expertise in both target, field archery and Paralympic disciplines he was recognised as the “go to” for advice, and in depth analysis on the rules of shooting.

NEW AGB OUTDOOR CLASSIFICATIONS & HANDICAPS

DCAS archers should now be aware that Archery GB have released new Outdoor Classifications and Handicaps for 2023 which now cover a wider range of abilities and indeed Rounds. These include new archers likely to be able to get from third to first class classification by entering just one 12 dozen round, such as a York or WA1440.

The handicap tables are completely revised and based on a new system. Archers using scoring Apps may need to check they have updated. For those Records Officer using Golden Eecords a new update happened on Wednesday.

The new outdoor score tables can be found on the AGB Website here:

https://archerygb.org/news/outdoor-classifications-and-handicaps-update

There is also a new Calculator available which covers these changes, allowing clubs to create handicaps and classifications for club rounds, and it also has some interesting features such as comparable scores for other rounds and typical group sizes for the round entered along with the normal information such as Handicap and classification.

Here is a link to that: https://archerycalculator.co.uk

GWAS Coaching Grants go paperless

Anyone wishing to access GWAS grant funding for the completion of a coaching course will now be required to do so via a google form which can be found below and via the ‘coaching’ section of the GWAS website. From Feb 2023 we will no longer be accepting paper grant submissions. Paper copies were proving time consuming, causing delays to payment and damaging to the environment due to printing requirements. This move has been endorsed by all County Coaching Organisers in our most recent meeting.
All information about the GWAS Coaching Grants Policy and Criteria can be found on the google form.

The GWAS move to paperless does not impact on the County grant processes. Please follow your county grant process, whatever that may be.
Grants which have already been sent to the RCO for payment in January 2023 do not need to be submitted via the online form, they will be processed via the old paper form.

Archery Training Sessions

DWAA are considering organisating a series of training sessions aimed at supporting archers to improve their archery skills and improve performance. We are keen to gauge what interest/take up there would be.

Potentially it would be a around 3 sessions at 4-6 weekly intervals starting in the next few weeks. To ensure the expenses of running the sessions are covered there would be a cost.

If you are interested in these sessions please fill out the Expression of Interest. Closing date is 4th February 2023.

Using Drills and Skills to Develop Technique

Delivered by Lloyd Brown, Three-Time Olympic Team Coach

Sunday 26 March 2023     9.30am – 3.30pm

Strode College Sports Centre, Strode College, Church Rd, Street BA16 0AB

Every coach knows that learning good shooting technique early on sets up an archer for a happy and healthy experience of archery. Understanding the basics of shooting form and teaching these to your beginners from the first session creates a good foundation.

This workshop will explore the Drills & Skills that have been designed to help archers learn, practise, and understand the separate aspects of the shot process.  As the archer becomes competent in each element they can be embedded into the full sequence.

As coaches we need to understand the drills & skills and then be able to explain, enthuse and empower the archer to rehearse them outside of the shooting range.  We want them to perform the action repeatedly to improve their proficiency, become better archers and therefore enjoy the sport more!

Spaces can be booked by completing the form below.
