Eddy Wheeler Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce on the evening of 25th january Eddy Wheeler passed away after a short illness. He was very well loved within the archery community, always there to help or give advice, from coaching juniors to helping keep Redruth Archers ground looking good. Nothing was too much effort and in 2015 both he and his wife Wendy were recognised for over 40 years volunteering and were presented an award by Archery GB. He was liked and respected by everyone he came into contact with and will leave a big void in the archery community, he will be sadly missed by family and friends alike.

Devon and Cornwall Archery Society Indoor Championships 2022

The DCAS Committee have looked at whether it is sensible to run the Indoor Championships at Plymouth and given the current state of the Covid pandemic, we feel that it is important to protect our members and volunteers and as such we will be cancelling the physical event. We would like to thank Yelverton Bowmen and the YMCA for supporting us in this decision. Instead we will run the County Championships as a postal event, but not quite in the same format as other replacement postals that we, and GWAS have done recently.

Regrettably, due to increased COVID risks, availability of judges and reducing numbers, the Brixham Archers Committee have made the difficult decision to cancel their Clipper UKRS tournament for 2022. A comment from them says: “We appreciate that this will be a disappointment and it is not a decision we made lightly, however we have to put the safety of our volunteers and archers first.”

County Shoots & Team Events Cancelled

We
are disappointed to announce that due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic we
have taken the difficult decision to cancel both the Wiltshire WA in July, and
the 3-day County Championship weekend in August also additionally cancel all
junior and senior County Archery Team events for the remainder of the calendar
year.

The Wiltshire WA is part of the wider 2-day Supermarine Weekend which has also
been cancelled as announced by themselves earlier today. All entrants will be
contacted by the Tournament Organiser regarding their fees.

Entry for the 3-day County Championship weekend had not yet opened pending a
decision since Lockdown started.

The junior and senior County Archery Team events cancelled include the DWAA vs
HAA match at the Andover FITA Star in July, the National County Team Tournament
at Lilleshall in June and both the junior and senior GWAS Regional Inter-county
Tournaments in September even if the events themselves may eventually go ahead.
All team members should have been contacted by their respective Team Managers.

The ArcheryGB Big Weekend in May and GWAS Dunster Championships in June are
already announced as being cancelled.

We
apologise for any inconvenience this causes. This decision is due to the
continued impact of the coronavirus outbreak along with ensuring the safety of
archers, judges, organisers and other people involved in these events and to
allow archers to focus on their own clubs and memberships during the ongoing
difficulties.

We thank Supermarine Bowmen and South Wilts AC for agreeing
to originally host the two  cancelled shooting events.
