The following link gives access to the 2021 GWAS Nomination Form.

The officer nomination forms must be submitted by 17:00 on Sunday 14 March 2021. This is applicable for the officers of the society being President, Chairman, Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasuer as per clauses 20 and 21 of the GWAS constitution. Although the constitution allows for other positions to be submitted on the day it would be much appreciated if these could be submitted by noon on Saturday 20 March thus allowing the virtual AGM to proceed easier.

Dunster 2021 Update

Two weeks ago, I received an email from the National Trust stating that they we not happy for Dunster Week 2021 to go ahead. I am sure you will all understand that this was totally unexpected as last year they were happy for us to hold the event even if the grounds were closed to the general public.

Needless to say, I have gone back to The Trust asking that they reconsider their decision in light of information I passed on which should allay some of their concerns. I also asked that they wait until we had all heard from Boris on the 22^nd of February to see how the Roadmap might affect the event. The Trust agreed to this.

As yet I have not had a response from The Trust, it is unfortunate that some of the staff I deal with only work part time so it is not always that easy for them to meet up to discuss matters. I have chased this up and my contact is hopeful that they will reach a decision this week so I ask that you bear with me as currently I am not in a position to say for sure that Dunster Week 2021 will go ahead due to factors outside of my control.

As soon as I get a decision from The Trust, I will put this out to you all.

The 2021 Grand Western Indoor/Outdoor Covid Challenge

In line with Government and Archery GB Guidelines we were forced to cancel the 2021 Junior and Senior GWAS Indoor Championships.

Instead we are hoping to run the event as a virtual competition which will be open to all current members of The Region with a total prize fund of over £900 up for grabs!

The initial idea was to run the event from 14^thFebruary for four weeks but due to the current lockdown this is clearly not possible.

Details will be sent out once we know more about the “Roadmap Out of Lockdown” to be announced by Boris on 22^ndFebruary.

Please keep an eye on the GWAS website!

Usually around this time in February I would be sending out the entry forms for Dunster Week 2021, but I am sure you will understand that am holding off doing so until we hear from Boris on the 22nd.

This will give us all a greater understanding of the roadmap out of lockdown and “Boris willing” I will be looking to get the forms out by the end of February.

It is with regret that we announce the passing of Dorothea Baker from Devon & Cornwall on 14th January at the age of 96, known to many as “Poppy”.

Many older members of the Society will remember Dorothea as a spirited lady who knew how to have fun but with a determination to ensure that archery was taught properly and with etiquette. “Poppy” was a talented archer and National Judge and will be sadly missed by many.

 A message from the GWAS President 

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you in your clubs and counties within the GWAS region, who are working tirelessly behind the scenes in an effort to keep archery alive during these difficult times. 

I know that hours have been spent creating protocols to enable people to shoot, only to have the tier restrictions change and thus prevent your plans being put in to action. Your work and enthusiasm has not gone unnoticed and I applaud and thank you on behalf of all the GWAS community. 

I would also like to publically thank our Honorary Tournament Organiser for devising and running on line GWAS tournaments and our Honorary Treasurer for her scheme to make grants available to help clubs survive until we can all resume the sport we love. 

Let us hope that it will not be too long before we can meet again on the shooting line.

The attached flyer gives details of the very first GWAS award winners upto 30th September 2019 (which in normal circumstances would have been presented at the AGM 2020). Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic it has taken longer to assemble the information for presentation to the membership.
