Message from GWAS President

A message from the GWAS President

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you in your clubs and counties within the GWAS region, who are working tirelessly behind the scenes in an effort to keep archery alive during these difficult times.

I know that hours have been spent creating protocols to enable people to shoot, only to have the tier restrictions change and thus prevent your plans being put in to action. Your work and enthusiasm has not gone unnoticed and I applaud and thank you on behalf of all the GWAS community.

I would also like to publically thank our Honorary Tournament Organiser for devising and running on line GWAS tournaments and our Honorary Treasurer for her scheme to make grants available to help clubs survive until we can all resume the sport we love.

Let us hope that it will not be too long before we can meet again on the shooting line.

With best wishes to all,

Jane Rees

In Memoriam – Paul Maines

It is with deep regret and sadness that I must inform you that Paul Maines died on Sunday 23rd August.
He had been feeling unwell over the weekend, was admitted to hospital and died at lunchtime.
Paul was not only an archery enthusiast and coach, but also a great servant of the sport, both for his club, Gordano Valley, and for his county, Somerset, where he had been Chairman until his health deteriorated as he was undergoing treatment for cancer – a treatment he endured bravely and without complaint.
He will be greatly missed by all his archery friends and, on behalf of SCAA, I offer sincere condolences to his family.

Archery GB announce a further return to Archery – Phase 2

As of Saturday, 25 July Archery GB governed archery in England will officially be in Phase 2 of the phased approach to returning to the sport.

Archery GB has updated its guidelines  in England for this next stage covering both indoor and outdoor shooting. A significant change is that indoor shooting will be permitted however all archers must wear face coverings when shooting indoors and in all indoor environments, except when actively shooting

The second phase documents include an updated infographic, risk assessment template and guides. These will be regularly updated.

A return to shooting is dependant upon your own club commitee and member’s wishes also dependant upon the permission of and any guidelines your landlord may also wish you to adher to if you do not own your own club ground.
